Dropping Dead and Second Chance: Shvona Lavette Dishes
Ever worked yourself so hard you feel like you are going to drop dead? Are you really striving for a goal by doing anything it takes? Are you mixed up in the Korean mafia world? Wait—the last one doesn’t sound like you. However, it is the message and theme of musician/actress Shvona Lavette’s (you may know her from her appearances in Lincoln Heights, Melissa and Joey or Brothers and Sisters) new dance single “Drop Dead”.
“People who are striving for [celebrity] lifestyle think it is going to bring them happiness and success are dropping themselves dead to get there,” said Lavette about the message of her new single. “They will do anything in doing what it takes. It is that life of dead happiness.“
So even though you may not be wrapped up in the underground mafia world, you probably are doing what it takes to achieve your goals, or even to find out what they are. Sometimes by doing this you can make mistakes. Within these mistakes there may be hope of a second chance.
In Lavette’s video it shows her as the hero extracting Korean sex slaves from the mafia world. "There is this whole message of a second chance,” said Lavette. “Being an artist there are a lot of times where I could have done better and haven’t given it my all. To me, every day is a second chance to start something new. " Mistakes are a given. An old saying, “A life spent making mistakes is a life more honorable than a life spent doing nothing,” puts Lavette’s message into perspective. It means don’t fear your first chance and live to a second.
“Life itself is a battle,” said Lavette about her advice in recovering from mistakes. “When you kind of mess up try not to beat yourself up. The past is the past. Try to learn from your mistakes.” Growing wise from mess ups is important. Even in Lavette’s first single “Always” she sports this message. “In particular it was talking about this guy and you may not be nice to each other, but he will always have a place in my heart,” said Lavette. “It is ok to have that connection with someone on all levels.”
So taking chances to make mistakes, learn from them and work hard until you drop dead is important to achieve your goals. “I take a lot of chances,” said Lavette who moved to Los Angeles from New York to pursue her career. “A breakup prompted it into fruition and my mom thought I was crazy.” However this chance has led to success. “If you keep living in the past and beating yourself up you are not going to get anywhere,” said Lavette. “Challenges will come your way again and now having had that experience you will know how to take them better.”
