“Give yourself the gift of time and allow yourself to grow and evolve.”
Sadie, Singer, Song Writer and Multi-instrumentalist

Sadie is a New York based singer/songwriter who recently released her debut EP, “Waiting For The Moment”, which was co-written and produced by Ted Mason of Modern English.   For this singer/multi-instrumentalist the moment is now with six songs inspired by 60’s girl group pop and updated with a modern singer/songwriter radio flair led by the single “For All You Do.”  Sadie has a very whimsical sound that is both flirty and cheeky.  Her unforgettable voice and cheeky lyrics makes her stand out as an artist!
With a childhood that spanned time in Germany, Washington State and Virginia, Sadie’s passion for music led her to take vocal lessons, viola and piano during her formative years.  At Indiana University Sadie earned a degree in musical theatre and has a deep background in classical music.
Sadie at Home

iaam: We read that you moved around a lot when you were young, and experienced a variety of different living situations across the United States and Germany!  How did that help shape your personality, or your outlook on life?
Sadie:
Moving around a lot at a young age taught me how to adapt to new environments and to make friends fast.  I was exposed to kids and adults from different backgrounds, cultures and religions and I realized at a very young age that we are all the same!   We are all people and our differences are what make each of us so amazing and special.   I love making new friends which is why I adore living in New York.  I stop and talk to someone new every day.

iaam: You play the viola, piano, and you’re a trained singer - amazing!  What influences your songs, and what are your favorite instruments to use?
Sadie:
Thank you!  I love making music any way I can.  Sometimes I find myself tapping random beats with a pen on the coffee table or humming notes as I walk to the subway.  There is always music playing in my head.  The highlight of my day is when I get some alone time and can sit at my keyboard and sing.
My songs are influenced by my love of life!  I know growing up can be difficult.  My mom had to get food from a food bank when I was little.  My brother was hospitalized with leukemia when we were in high school and came very close to dying.  I was “dorky”, “awkward” and picked on by my peers as a teenager.  But life is truly beautiful and much too short.  You have to be who you are, love who you are and share your happiness with the rest of world especially when times are tough.  My favorite instrument is the acoustic guitar.  I love the beautiful simplicity of a single voice and a guitar together.

iaam: How do you describe yourself?
Sadie:
Singer.  Musician.  Happy as a clown.  Wild for my friends.  Lover of laughter.  Silly almost always.  Obsessed with The Wizard of Oz.  A traveler.  Slightly inappropriate.  Music in the shower.  Crazy tights/knee highs.  I adore my family.  Slumber parties. Playing tag in the pool with my dog.  Yummy, yummy baklava.  Making mistakes and learning from them.  Cupcake fights in a club.  Snowboarding, even though I suck at it. No worries and no regrets.  NEW YORK!

iaam: Do you have a specific icon or role model that you look up to?
Sadie:
Bob Marley.  He was truly an outstanding songwriter and storyteller.  His LP Legend hangs on the wall above my couch along side by my collection of electric guitars.  “Love the life you live. Live the life you love.”

iaam: Your style is distinct - very ‘60s chic, but with a quirky twist.  Where does your fashion inspiration come from?
Sadie:
Marianne Faithfull, Michelle Phillips, Sharon Tate, Audrey Hepburn, and Bridget Bardot.  I adore these beautiful, talented women who were existentialists during the feminist movement and always pushed the envelope.  My quirkiness comes from my mom.  She always encouraged me to be an individual.

iaam: Do you have a favorite band, vocalist, or songwriter?  Who have you been listening to recently?
Sadie:
I love so many different artists and practically every genre of music.   My all time favorite band is the Beatles!  Their music truly transcends time.  I also really dig UK’s singer-songwriter Eliza Doolittle for her free-spirited, fun-loving attitude.

iaam: What was your favorite aspect of college? Would you recommend it to most of our readers?
Sadie:
The best four years of my life!  I started my freshman year at the age of seventeen and, for me, it was the perfect transition from teenager to adulthood.  I enjoyed college so much more than high school because I was able to choose my own classes and schedule.  I studied a lot during my four years at Indiana University and graduated with a 3.8 GPA, but I also found plenty of time to have fun with my friends.
I would recommend college to anyone out there who wants to further their education.  I don’t think you necessarily have to go to college to be successful, but knowledge is a very powerful tool in life.  I also think it’s okay to take time off after high school before going to college.  My eldest brother took four years off between high school and college and he graduated from VCU with a degree in kinetic art.  My other brother just started undergrad last year at the age of 29-years-old and aspires to be a veterinarian.  Go to college when you are ready!  That’s my advice.

iaam: What would your advice be for readers thinking about breaking into the music business?
Sadie:
Always believe in yourself and follow your heart.  Don’t get discouraged if things don’t happen as fast as you would like them to or they way you would want them to.   Give yourself the gift of time and allow your self to grow and evolve.  I started college as a vocal performance major studying strictly classical music.  You never know where life will take you so just enjoy the ride!

iaam: Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these! Finally - here at iaam.com, we’re big fans of positive or inspirational messages. What would you say is a quote that you look to most often?
Sadie:
"A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world."
-Oscar Wilde
Thanks so much!
