“I know it sounds Corny. But when you follow your dreams, it happens. And if it’s music, take it seriously.” Enrique Iglesias, Singer, songwriter, model, actor and record producer.
Enrique Iglesias has been able to touch on almost all aspects of the entertainment industry during his career. Who knows what he will do next!
Enrique started writing songs when he was only 15 years old. With Julio Iglesias, one of the most known Hispanic singers of his era, as his father it is no wonder that Enrique expressed interest in the music industry.
His career started thanks to one record label named Fonovisa. Because of them Iglesias was able to tap into the latin music world in both Latin America and the United States. By starting his career with this particular label Enrique quickly became the biggest seller of Spanish-language albums in the 1990’s.
However, this record deal was not his debut as a singer. The world, or rather a small audience in an auditorium, first met him at Gulliver Preparatory School. His very first role? A production of Hello, Dolly!
Enrique’s singing career quickly progressed. On July 12, 1995 he released the album Enrique Iglesias. In it was included “Si Tu Te Vas”, as well as one of his most famous songs, even to this day: “Experiencia Religiosa”.
Three years later he introduced his third album Cosas del Amor. This album showcased his voice in a more mature manner. He was able to enchant the Latin music scene with singles like “Nunca Te Olvidare” and “Esperanza”.
In 1999 Enrique received his big break. Will Smith was working on a new movie called Wild Wild West. The actor was looking for new sounds to include in the movie’s soundtrack. After attending one of Enrique’s concerts, he knew he had found it.
The latin contribution “Bailamos” was also released as a single. It quickly became the number one hit in the U.S. giving Enrique international standing as a performer at last.
Many international record labels sought after Enrique after the success of “Bailamos”. He decided to work with Interscope and after weeks of negotiation signed a multi-album deal with the label.
His album first full CD in English is called Enrique. The album took two months to complete, but the Latin influences included in his new pop sound kept his original fans happy while building his audience.
His second English album came out in 2001. It was called Escape. With a foot in the door of the English music scene, Enrique was able to sell even more albums now than before. “Hero” the first single of the album became the number one hit in the United Kingdom and basically the rest of the world.
His album Escape is still his biggest commercial success to date with 100 million units sold worldwide. It is no time until he surprises fans once more. His work has already made him one of the best selling Latin artists of all time. With these credentials it is no wonder that Billboard has called him “The King of Latin Pop” and “The King of Dance”.
