Hunger Games is one of the most anticipated movies of 2012. Hunger Games is like the next ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Twilight Saga’ sequels for teenagers which were turned into movies from the bestselling books. The Hunger Games is first book of the Hunger Games Trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. The book is really engaging, action-packed and full of suspense. Director Gary Ross & Steven Soderbergh have transferred the essence of the story very well in the movie and created an action packed plot which is worth watching! Like Brave New World, this story is set in a future where the government oppresses its people and will go to incredibly twisted ways to create entertainment for their population. When the movie opens, North America as we know it has been destroyed and is now divided into 12 districts, ruled by an oppressive government located at the Capitol.
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains. To protect her sister Katniss (Jennifer Lawerence) volunteers for the competition where only one player survives.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss (Jennifer Lawerence) is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson). If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
