Tiffany Houghton may be familiar to you. If not, take the time to meet this great girl! Tiffany started her music career at age 15 and it has been growing, in large amounts, ever since. She toured with MKTO in The American Dream Tour in 2014, and has released signature songs like “High”, with almost a million and a half views on YouTube, and “The Best”. Now Tiffany is back with her latest summer single “Catch Me if You Can” that has already been a huge hit. It held the #1 top spot on Disney Radio for quite some time! Read more about Tiffany, her music and latest single!
iaam: What are three words that describe you?
Tiffany Houghton: peculiar, driven, happy
iaam: You just released a new song “Catch Me if You Can”, how did you feel when it became the #1 most requested song on Radio Disney?
Tiffany: Honestly I thought there was some kind of mistake! Hahaha...I had to refresh the page multiple times and re-read my name bc I really thought I was seeing things. My sweet Tiffanies are incredible. Can’t believe it’s 5 days later and it’s still #1. I couldn't be more surprised and thankful.
iaam: Describe your experience filming the music video for “Catch Me if You Can”. What is the story behind your video and what is the message you want your viewers to get out of it?
Tiffany: It was just a big dress up party. The whole crew was amazing. We were jamming to our favorite 90’s Britney & BSB while doing hair and makeup. Haha lets be real, I’m a blue eyed blonde haired American girl. I can laugh at myself! I had a great time poking fun at the stereotype people have applied to me in the past. This video concept stemmed from me wanting to portray the confidence to pursue, as well as the confidence to be pursued...and what better an excuse to dress up in roller skates, have Ken IRL, and a pink hot tub car?!
iaam: What is your favorite lyric in the song catch me if you can and why?
Tiffany: “We’re both born to run.” I love that lyric because it insinuates confidence on both sides. It’s a healthy, fun, relationship where both are pursing dreams and enjoying each other at the same time. Nobody’s holding the other back.
iaam: “Catch Me if You Can” is definitely a song of the summer! What do you enjoy doing in the summer to beat the heat?
Tiffany: I LOVE the beach. I love actually getting in the water and swimming in the waves. Gosh I love the water so much.
iaam: What is a normal day like for you? Who inspires your music? If you could collaborate with any musicians in the world who would they be and why?
Tiffany: No two days are the same but I like getting up early. I usually get up around 6 or 7, take my dog for a walk and listen to a devotional or an audio book to get my day started right. Then I have a morning planning meeting with my team and we break off to execute whatever goals we’ve set that morning. I usually do a couple hours of talking to fans as well as songwriting on any given day. It’s cliché because it’s true, life inspires art. Our experiences shape the way we look at the world. I love painting that picture through the landscape of my music. Max Martin is my dream producer. He sits in the driver’s seat of pop music. I think his ability to adapt and reinvent his sound over time to different artists and eras is brilliant.
iaam: As a blond with blue eyes, you have experienced a lot of stereotyping, what do you have to say about breaking stereotypes? What is the best way to avoid stereotyping?
Tiffany: Others stereotype because it requires less work than actually getting to know you. In general I would say just don’t pay much attention to what others say, good or bad. You are the expert of you. Stick to yourself and others will follow.
iaam: You seem to have a great sense of fashion! How would you describe your style? Who or what inspires your sense of fashion?
Tiffany: I like feminine and classy styles. I seem to look to different time periods to find style inspiration. I love the iconic Twiggy & Audrey Hepburn just to name a few. At the end of the day though I genuinely believe that kindness puts a kind of light in your countenance that no outfit, make up, or beauty product could ever replicate.
iaam: How has your music influenced your style? Who is/are your ultimate style icon(s)?
Tiffany: I try to be classy in my appearance. I would never want to come across as if my body was all I had going for me. I love Emma Watson’s take on this.
iaam: What is your go-to/everyday look?
Tiffany: When in doubt I dress all in one color. I like to have one statement piece and then just dress the rest up around that.
iaam: What do you look for when shopping for new pieces to add to your wardrobe?
Tiffany: A perfect blend of class and uniqueness.
iaam: Are you a city or country girl?
Tiffany: I love both. Some of my best memories are skipping along the streets of NYC as a little girl, but I also feel so close to God and the things I am most grateful for when I am outside.
iaam: Are you a sneakers or high heels kind of girl?
Tiffany: Again, I love them both, but right now I’m not wearing any shoes! Haha
iaam: What tips do you have for other teenagers on style and everyday fashion?
Tiffany: Take whatever amount of time you need to get ready and to feel good about yourself but the minute you walk out the door, forget yourself and go make somebody else feel important.
iaam: Here at iaam we have a campaign called “Smart is Sexy”, meaning that we value inner beauty, confidence, and personality over looks alone. Do you agree? What do you think is sexy?
Tiffany: I think beauty is all in your attitude. It’s in your confidence. As women, I don’t think confidence is just something we’re born with. It’s something that we build. If you’re not where you want to be, start today! Wake up early, put time into becoming great at something. Have opinions, voice them, be kind. Consistent little efforts over time build the greatest of masterpieces. And to me, that’s beauty.
iaam: What is the best advice someone has ever given you?
Tiffany: The wheel of life is always turning. So, when you’re at the top, be humble and when you’re at the bottom, be hopeful. It’s always turning.
