Shaking The Game – Madisyn Shipman

Posted by iaam

Madisyn Shipman is ready to rock the world! At fourteen years old, Madisyn has experience in acting and music! She is starring in the Nickelodeon’s popular series “Game Shakers” as "Kenzie," a girl who uses her brain and her skills in coding to start a multimillion dollar company with popular rapper, “Double G.” If you ever have some extra time at hand, “Game Shakers” is a great show to watch, teaching everyone to embrace their techie side and become comfortable with who they are! Along with that, Madisyn will play a part in the new Indie comedy, “Geezer,” starring Billie Joe Armstrong and Selma Blair. Get to know the talented actress and musician below!

iaam: Tell us something that most people don’t know about you!
Madisyn Shipman:
Most people would not know that I am the oldest of 4 siblings. I have 3 younger brothers: Sawyer, Caden and Jesse.

iaam: You are playing “Kenzie Bell” in Nickelodeon’s “Game Shakers” right now; what is one thing you love about the show? Can you relate to your character?
Madisyn:
I love playing Kenzie in Nickelodeon's "Game Shakers". I love the whole vibe and energy from our entire cast and crew. But come on, I have to say working with Dan Schneider is literally a dream come true!! It is an honor working with him! I feel like Kenzie and I are very similar. She's smart and a little nerdy/goofy just like I am. But hey, we all have to embrace our inner nerd side!

iaam: For anyone who hasn’t already watched the show, can you tell us a little more about it? Why should they tune in and watch?
Madisyn:
So, Game Shakers is about 2 girls, Babe and Kenzie, who create a gaming empire that developed from a science project. The game was an overnight success. We always find a way to get into trouble on spontaneous adventures with Double G, which is played by the one and only Kel Mitchell. Throughout the season, we create new games that you guys at home can download from the App Store and play along!

iaam: What has been your favorite moment on the set of “Game Shakers” so far?
Madisyn:
My favorite moment from the Game Shakers set is literally all the interaction that we have with the animals. I would say we have an animal on set at least every other month!

iaam: What is your favorite part about acting? Who would be your ultimate co-star?
Madisyn:
My favorite part of acting is character development. I love discovering the essence of the character. Ultimate co-star would have to be Tina Fey or Rob Schneider! Tina Fey is hilarious and super talented, so to work with her would be such an awesome experience. Rob Schneider also cracks me up. I'm a huge fan of his work. I literally quote "Hot Chick" on a daily basis with some of the crew on set!

iaam: Along with acting, you are also into music! What instruments do you play and which one is your favorite?
Madisyn:
Music is definitely a passion of mine. I do play several instruments. I play guitar, ukulele, keyboard and a dab of the bass. Picking a favorite is a hard one, but I would say ukulele. I play a lot of Ingrid Michaelson and I love the folk-ish feel.

iaam: What are some songs that make you want to dance when you hear them? What are the top three songs on your playlist right now?
Madisyn:
The songs that make me want to dance and that are top 3 on my playlist kinda go hand in hand. They are Melanie Martinez's "Milk and Cookies", P!nk's "So What", and Ingrid Michaelson's "Hell No". I'm obsessed with these artists, they are my inspiration.

iaam: We can’t wait to see you star in the movie “Geezer” which is coming out this fall! Is it exciting to get to work with Billie Joe Armstrong and Selma Blair? Tell us more about the movie?
Madisyn:
Working with Billie and Selma was an honor. Billie is a living legend and is an awesome human being. He kills it on the guitar and I will cherish the memories of us jamming out on breaks. Selma is insanely talented and taught me so much as an actress. Geezer is about the struggle that Perry (Billie Joe), a former punk rocker counters. His band has been on a ten year hiatus and is kinda experiencing a mid-life crisis. He believes his wife (Selma) and his daughter (moi!) forgot his birthday. He throws himself a pity party at a fancy NYC hotel and runs into an old crush while there. I won't spoil the ending for you guys. The movie comes out in September, so plan to go see it everyone!! It won't disappoint!

iaam: What was the audition process like for “Geezer”? What made you want to audition for the role?
Madisyn:
I was very passionate about Geezer's script. The storyline was real and the fact that I got to sing and play guitar in the movie was the icing on the cake!! The audition process was different than most. I played Beatles' songs at all of the auditions after reading with the casting director and the director, Lee Kirk. Lee made the process fun and super comfortable.

iaam: What do you do when you aren’t acting? What activities make you the happiest?
Madisyn:
When we are not on set I'm usually hanging out with my family and friends. I love roller coasters so you'll find me at the amusement park or hanging out by the pool!

iaam: What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Madisyn:

1. Cliff jumping (once I overcome my fear of heights or someone pushes me off)
2. A mission trip to South Africa for childhood education.
3. To co-star on my favorite show, Grey's Anatomy.

iaam: Where would you go on your dream vacation?
Madisyn:
My dream vacation would be a trip to South Africa. I would love to go on a safari and a cruise of the Delta.

iaam: What is your favorite movie?
Madisyn:
I'm old school! My favorite movie is Hot Chick and/or White Chicks!!

iaam: Can you tell us more about your work with the Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation? Does working with them benefit you as well?
Madisyn:
I'm very passionate about the Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation and hope to do a lot of work with them in the future. I hope to help raise awareness for this rare childhood disease. My cousin, Zoe, died at 2 years old from Niemann-Pick and it had a huge impact on me.

iaam: Why do you believe it is so important to give-back and do good?
Madisyn:
I believe it's important to give-back and do good because knowing that you can impact someone's day and put a smile on someone's face is what life is about!
