Here are 5 Easy Steps to Write Your First Resume.
1) Writing your first resume can feel like an overwhelming task. I’ve created a template that you can follow along and substitute my fields with your information and you should be good to go. First things first, always start with the basic contact information, name, cell number, email, and address.

2) Next you’ll want to include your work history. If you haven’t held a current job, no sweat, just include your volunteer work. If you have neither work nor volunteer experience just put your education first with your GPA and any awards that you might have won and or skill set you have.
Work History
Joe’s Pizza September 2007 - February 2009
(989) 111-11 Cashier
• Duties include: answer telephone, take orders, handle money, work with customers, ensure that pizzas are being made and delivered on time, ensure that staff is cleaning around the clock
3) Next put down any skills that you have that will pertain to the job that you are applying for. After go ahead and list any organizations that you are an active member. Employers like to see well rounded applicants. *For your education, if you haven’t graduated from high school or college no sweat. Just make note that you are working towards your degree and include your expected graduation date.
Education
High School Diploma, Happy High School, May 2009
4) You can either write your organizations as a list or in a paragraph form. Depending on the page limit, a paragraph is a great way to save space and shorten the length of your resume if there is a page limit. Employers like to see well rounded applicants so show them that you’re one with your involvement.
Organizations/Awards
I was an active member of: the National Honor Society, SGA Homecoming Fund Raiser, Six Strings Café Event Manager, and the marching band.
I was on the honor roll every quarter.
5) Finally make sure that you can include at least three solid references. For any reason if the employer wishes to, he or she may contact these people, so make sure that you are putting down reliable contacts that will say positive things about you and try to avoid putting down family members. (Of course your mom thinks you’re awesome!)

Things to Remember:
1. Make sure that you proof read your resume for any spelling mistakes.
2. See if you can have your resume looked over by a school counselor. They should be able to help you out with any troubles you might have.
3. Make sure to tailor the work experience section to fit the job that you are applying for. If you want to get a job in sales showing off your babysitting sales might not be as effective as listing your previous experience working at Sunglasses Hut.
4. Under the work section feel free to list jobs, volunteer work, and even freelance jobs such as photography, etc.
5. Play around with the layout and font; just remember to keep it professional and color free. Employers don’t want to read a resume that’s covered in purple and pink inks, keep it black and simple.
6. You don’t need to include everything about you on your resume. You just need to show employers why you are a good match for the job position.
Plant your interests to grow your passions!
